Advocacy Committee
The Advocacy Committee dedicates itself to grassroots organizing methods, drawn directly from the needs of California farmworkers. We seek to critically analyze the legislation and policies that maintain and reproduce oppressive conditions of the farmworker community, informing ourselves, the COMPAS general body, and the greater UCLA population. In attempts to remedy such conditions, we provide resources such as Red Card distributions, Know Your Rights workshops, and free legal services. We acknowledge that farmworker exploitation lies within a larger framework of forced migration, capitalism, and U.S. imperialism. Therefore, we work collaboratively, learning and growing alongside organizations that hold the same value: the liberation of workers through community organizing. Our work shall not be co-opted, and is meant to address issues that farmworkers deem the most urgent.
